The birth
date of the second President of India, SarvepalliRadhakrishnan, 5 September 1888, has been celebrated as Teacher's Day
since 1962. On this day, the usual school activities are replaced by
celebration, thanks and remembrance. In some schools, senior students take the
responsibility of teaching in order to show their appreciation for the
teachers. World Teachers’ Day is held annually on 5
October to celebrate all teachers around the globe. It commemorates the
anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and
responsibilities of teachers, and standards for their initial preparation and
further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning
conditions.
Each year,
Teachers' Day is celebrated with a distinct theme that underscores the changing
role of educators in society. The theme for Teachers' Day 2024 is “Empowering Educators for a Sustainable Future
