Ranganathan. Shiyali Ramamrita
Ranganathan ( 9 August 1892 – 27 September 1972) was a librarian and
mathematician from India. His most notable contributions to the field were his
five laws of library science and the development of the first major faceted
classification system, the colon classification.
By recognising his noble works for
the profession, he had been honoured with Padmashri Award by the Government of
India in the year 1957. He pinned Five Laws of Library Science during his
tenure in the Madras University Library which are the Grammar for the
profession of Librarianship
