Independence Day in India occurs on August 15 of every year. It celebrates the date in 1947 when the Indian Independence Act came into effect, which established India and Pakistan as separate countries, no longer under British imperialist rule. (In Pakistan, Independence Day is celebrated on August 14th.)will celebrate its 78th Independence Day on August 15, 2024, marked by an address to the nation by Prime Minister Modi, a grand parade, and illuminated monuments.Viksit Bharat is the 78th Indpendence theme, which aims to reflect on India's progress and envision its future growth by 2047. Birthday of S. R. Ranganathan

Ranganathan. Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan ( 9 August 1892 – 27 September 1972) was a librarian and mathematician from India. His most notable contributions to the field were his five laws of library science and the development of the first major faceted classification system, the colon classification.

By recognising his noble works for the profession, he had been honoured with Padmashri Award by the Government of India in the year 1957. He pinned Five Laws of Library Science during his tenure in the Madras University Library which are the Grammar for the profession of Librarianship
